Dear students,
Moving and advancing the human sciences – moving and inspiring with human sciences! These messages are conveyed by the motto 'Moving Human Sciences'. The motto aims to demonstrate the power and potential of the humanities, as they are the focus of the University of Lucerne. People and their institutions are at the centre, not only because of the university's subject matter, but also in the sense of being a personal university in daily interactions.
The manageable size of the university favours a personal atmosphere. Ultimately, however, it is the people, the lecturers, students and staff, who create this atmosphere.
There are various opportunities for personal encounters and engagements on campus. Some of them are listed in this newsletter. For example, the 'Open Door' at the Rector's office, mentoring refugees on the 'Discovery semester programme', or the 'Homecoming Party' in autumn.
Space for encounters is also created on the Inseli. The space freed up by the removal of the car parking spaces will be used for events, food and drinks, and space for games and sports. The project will start on the 1st of July. The University is partly responsible for this interim use. Contributions for the 'Uni-Night' on Wednesday evenings are welcome.
Other opportunities to exchange ideas and get involved include the student councils and various student associations and initiatives. Take advantage of the opportunities to meet and get involved at the university and in its wider community as an enrichment, and a balance to your studies.
I wish you a good and successful end to the semester.
Lukas Portmann, Head of University Communications
