Esteemed students,
The spring semester 2020 will most likely remain in our memories for some time to come. The semester was less than a month old, when the Federal Council decreed the lockdown. From that moment, it was no longer possible to attend classes, visit the library or participate in university sports. The university had to very quickly switch to digital teaching. Practically from one day to the next, students and lecturers had to cope with this new situation. For some, it was certainly a technical challenge, but the lack of physical presence in the lecture hall is also challenging and unfamiliar for lecturers and students.
The examinations are now due to take place. This will be another new experience for most of those involved - lecturers and students. The preparations for the alternative examinations are going smoothly and efficiently at the university. Among other things, the legal requirements have had to be created, alternative proofs of performance have been found and the technical infrastructure has had to be installed. I would especially like to point out the excellent cooperation between the student organisation SOL and the university management, and I would like to thank the SOL for this.
The spring semester of 2020 will probably be remembered by all of us - because, despite the adverse circumstances, it was possible to ensure that students were able to continue their studies without needing to extend their studies or face any other negative consequences.
I wish you every success with your examinations.
Dr. Wolfgang Schatz, Secretary General
