Esteemed students,
The University of Lucerne’s logo leaves no room for doubt, universities are places of networked activities whilst also themselves being part of a network. The University of Lucerne places a great deal of importance on networking. Indeed, our university is socially and digitally well connected, as well as also being part of an inter-faculty, regional, national and international network. At the centre of this web of networks are our students.
Digital teaching models
Students first experience the effects of digital networks in the form of various teaching methods. Whether we like it or not, global networks and digitalisation are constantly changing university teaching. In this age, digital course offerings are an important element in the competitive education market. However, digital teaching should not replace the personal and direct relationship between students and their teachers. Developing knowledge is after all primarily possible through the direct exchange that happens between students and teachers. The ‘inverted classroom’ teaching model postulates that knowledge transfer should be digitalised so that the time spent at university can be used for more in-depth discussions of topics with more complex content. The almost complete E-Learning strategy of the university’s teaching commission strongly emphasises the need for digital teaching models to complete and complement traditional teaching methods and not replace them.
Mobility
The University of Lucerne’s international network allows students to complete a part of their studies at an overseas partner university. Currently, within the scope of the ‘Swiss-European Mobility’ programme the University of Lucerne offers opportunities at over 75 partner universities in 19 European countries. In addition, the university boasts 27 partnerships with universities in 16 non-European countries with all continents represented. The number of partnerships are to be continuously increased in the coming years and the nets are to be cast further afield. Take advantage of this opportunity to experience a different university setting!
I would like to wish you all the very best for the upcoming exams and a relaxing, lecture-free summer.
