In the spring semester 2024, the email inboxes of all students will be migrated from the local email system to Microsoft M365 as part of the University of Lucerne's M365 project. This migration is part of our efforts to improve the performance, security and reliability of our email platform. 

When will the migration take place
The @stud.unilu.ch e-mail inboxes will be migrated in stages between 04.03.2024 and 21.04.2024. You will soon find the exact migration date for your mailbox in the schedule on our IT-Help website migration schedule. For organisational reasons, there may be short-term changes to the schedule before and during the migration phase. We therefore ask you to check the timetable regularly to see whether the migration date relevant to you has remained the same or whether it has had to be changed.

What will change for you
After the migration, you will benefit from the enhanced functions and improved user experience of Microsoft M365 when using e-mail. You will also have significantly more storage space in your personal mailbox (previously 400 MB / now 15 GB). Your e-mail address will remain unchanged and you will still be able to access all your saved e-mails, contacts and appointments.

Actions you should take before migrating your mailbox
Check your current e-mail programmes and apps and, if necessary, switch to a programme or app for which M365 access has been tested and verified by us. These are the programmes / apps Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail and Google Gmail (in current versions on current operating systems).

Actions you should perform immediately after the migration of your mailbox
After the migration, you should remove your @stud.unilu.ch email account from all email programmes and apps and add it again according to the information on our IT-Help website mail access with private devices. Without this adjustment, mailbox access from the email programs and apps will no longer work after the migration.

What will change when accessing emails via the web browser (Webmail / Outlook Web App)
You can still access your mailbox via the previous address https://webmail.stud.unilu.ch. After logging in to our webmail portal, you will receive a forwarding link to the new M365 Outlook Web App. Alternatively, you can also open the M365 Outlook Web App directly via the address https://outlook.office.com. Multi-factor authentication is required for both variants. You can find information on this on our IT help website Microsoft Authenticator for M365.
