Corona Virus: ongoing assessment of the situation
(28.02.2020) The Corona Virus continues to spread. To date, Switzerland has not been affected, but the University of Lucerne continuously monitors and reassesses the situation based on information provided by the responsible federal and cantonal authorities. The university also adheres to the guidance and instructions these authorities give. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) has issued various recommendations for travelers to and from China. Additional measures on the part of the university are currently not indicated.
On its website, the FOPH recommends the following measures for persons who travel/return to Switzerland from China (except travelers from Hubei province):
- Regularly washing hands with soap and water
- Avoiding places where there are many people, e.g. sports events and public transportation
- If you experience symptoms of a respiratory infection (fever, cough, shortness of breath), stay home and call a doctor or a health care facility by phone for further instructions.
There is currently no reason to go beyond these measures recommended by the FOPH.
Hand disinfectant dispensers have been posted at the main entrance of the University/PH Building. This was not done because of the corona virus, but because the seasonal flu virus in central Switzerland has crossed the threshold of an epidemic. The measures listed above for (return) travelers from China are also effective against an infection with the flu virus.
The University of Lucerne will continue to monitor the situation and will provide timely updates as needed. Please take the above measures to heart.
We wish you a virus-free time and good health!
