The idea of democratic global institutions has attracted the attention of many political philosophers and normative theorists, but empirically oriented social scientists tend to be more reluctant to tackle this subject. This talk discusses a number of avenues through which empirical social research can contribute to debates on the feasibility and consequences of global democratization, and presents some of the speaker’s recent findings on this set of questions.
