Another semester is drawing to a close – another step towards graduation for many of you. For some, however, it was their very first semester at the University of Lucerne: an exciting introduction to a whole new world. This semester was also a special one for me. While it wasn’t my first at the University of Lucerne, it was my first in the role of Vice President for Teaching and International Relations.

The University of Lucerne will be closed during the public holidays from Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 December 2024 and from Tuesday 31 December to Thursday 2 January 2025. New student workspace on the ground floor
From Monday, 6 January 2025 new study spaces will be available for you on the ground floor, room E.202, formerly the «Studiladen». The tutorial room in the basement will soon be converted into a seminar room.
New brochure on gender relations
Since 2017, the Office of Equal Opportunity has regularly released a brochure that provides an overview of gender relations at our university. Today marks the publication of the fourth edition. The brochure is available as a PDF. Printed copies can be obtained from the Office of Equal Opportunity in room 3.A24 (Pia Ammann, Head of the Office of Equal Opportunity). More info

Buddy programme for international exchange students at UNILU
The Buddy programme of the Erasmus Student Network Lucerne (ESN) supports international exchange students at the start of their mobility semester and connects them with local students. Buddies support incoming students from initial orientation to Welcome Week and events. Local students who would like to take part can register at any time by emailing contactremove-this.@remove-this.luzern.esn.ch.

Focus on research data
How do you store research data securely? How do you document and share it? Research data management supports scientific data throughout its entire life cycle, from project planning to publication. It includes organising, documenting, storing, publishing, and reusing research data, as well as addressing legal and ethical issues. Sounds exciting? On 10 December, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., the foyer will be transformed into a "Winter Wonderland of Research Data". You can look forward to an exchange with key players such as the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), SWISSUbase, and the "Prophylax" programme of the Federal Intelligence Service (FIS). Learn how proper research data management can advance science - and benefit you!
HSCL times during the holidays
The HSCL sports programme will conclude for the year on Saturday, 21 December 2024, and will resume on a reduced schedule starting Monday, 6 January 2025. The Psychological Counselling Centre Campus Lucerne provides personal counselling sessions for students facing challenges in their studies, work or private lives. Looking to dive deeper into a topic alongside fellow students? Our "on demand" workshops cover areas such as performance anxiety, stress management, mindfulness, resilience and procrastination, offering a chance to work intensively on these issues. horizonte – Chaplaincy for students
Weekend in guided silence: Take time for yourself and retreat into silence for a weekend. This time away offers the chance to calm your mind, reflect or simply switch off. Anniversary concert - Best of 20 years of the Lucerne University Choir
The Lucerne University Choir is celebrating its 20th anniversary! The anniversary concert follows the motto "Best of Unichoir". The Lucerne University Choir will take you on a journey through the choir's past years, from classical works, Disney melodies and evergreens from musicals to pop/rock and Irish music. "légèr’été": Campus Orchestra Lucerne (COL)
Already looking ahead to spring: The Lucerne Campus Orchestra (COL) is planning a programme full of lightness. The performance will feature a piano concerto by Mozart, alongside works by Sibelius and Schubert. Students, staff, alumnae and alumni from Lucerne's universities will participate in the programme. New players - especially string players, brass players and percussionists - are very welcome. No audition is required. Rehearsals usually take place on Monday evenings during the semester. The COL concert in the spring semester 2025 will take place on Friday, 2 May 2025, at 7.30 p.m. in the Church of St. Charles, Lucerne. More info

Here are the important dates for the coming semester: The pre-sale in the shop for the spring semester (FS25) at the University of Lucerne will take place 13-14 February 2025, and the main sale 17-19 February 2025. For the PH Lucerne, the pre-sale in the shop will start 20-21 February 2025, followed by the main sale on 24 and 25 February 2025. Instructions, tips and training sessions
Many IT questions can be answered online. Additionally, the University of Lucerne offers comprehensive instructions, tips, and training sessions, especially regarding the use of Microsoft 365, including email, calendar, Teams, OneDrive and other functions. All relevant information and tutorials are available on the M365 Resources and Training website and in the IT Knowledge Base.
Security: Use the semester lockers
You can use the 644 lockers on the 1st basement floor of the Uni/PH building to store your personal belongings securely. The keys can be rented at the Infodesk - where you can obtain additional information on fees and terms of use. Important note for current tenants: Please return your key to the Infodesk by Wednesday, 29 January 2025 at the latest. Please remember to empty the locker completely and leave it clean.
Prevention of sexual harassment: confidants
The three Lucerne universities offer a joint service for persons affected by sexual harassment. Any form of sexual harassment at a place of work or study is unacceptable and will result in appropriate measures and sanctions. Affected persons have the opportunity to receive quick and competent support by contacting one of the four confidental counsellors. More info

Christmas Lecture 2024: "What money can't buy..."
On Wednesday, 18 December 2024, from 8.15 a.m. - 9.00 a.m., Dr Aleksandra Brand will deliver a Christmas lecture as part of the New Testament introductory series. Her topic: “The Holy Year and indulgences - perspectives on constructs that may have fallen out of time". There will be time for questions and discussion afterwards.
