After one and a half year of exclusively or mostly digital courses, the semester has started with face-to-face teaching. This means that the activity and liveliness that characterise life at a university are returning to Frohburgstrasse. Even if there are still corona-related restrictions in place, we are pleased that on site meetings and exchanges are possible again.

Winter Universiade comes to visit: online teaching in December
From 11th to 21st of December 2021, the 30th Winter Universiade will be hosted in Lucerne. The university and the PH will provide the venue for this multisport event in our Frohburgstrasse building for the entire month of December. Therefore, no courses, examinations or HSCL training sessions can be held in the Uni/PH building during this period. Students are invited to participate in the scientific congress or as volunteer helpers.

Master’s Information Evening
The master’s information evenings for each of the four faculties and the Department of Health Sciences and Medicine will take place on Tuesday, 26th October 2021. The evenings offer an insight into the study programmes and the opportunity to ask questions. More information
'Open Door' at Rector’s Office
Once per semester, the rector will open his door at a specified time. The next opportunity will be Tuesday, 2nd November from 9-11am. The rector will be available for questions, and welcomes your concerns, wishes and suggestions. Please register via e-mail to rektoratremove-this.@remove-this.unilu.ch.
Reporting Office
Since the beginning of May 2021, the University of Lucerne has had an independent office to which suspected or actual abuses and misconduct by University employees can be reported. The head of this whistleblowing office is Dr Crispin Hugenschmidt, who has been serving as the university's ombudsman since the beginning of 2014.

Remaining CampusCard balance
At the end of August, the food vending machines in the corridors were renewed. Only debit/credit cards and Twint are now accepted for payment. As already informed via on site displays, the CampusCard can no longer be used as a means of payment in the canteen and for food vending machines at the Frohburgstrasse location.

Please remember to pay your semester fees on time and in full in order to keep your 'enrolled' status. After payment, the enrolment confirmation can be downloaded from the UniPortal. New students receive their confirmation of enrolment during the personal enrolment.

Application deadlines for student exchange
If you are interested in taking part in an exchange semester, please take a look at the website of the International Relations Office (IRO) and contact the mobility coordinator within your home faculty in good time. Language courses
The following courses will be offered in the autumn semester: English B2/C1 (speaking and writing), Italian A1.1, Italian A2.1, and French B1.1. For students whose mother tongue is not German, we offer the following courses: German A1.1, German A2.1, German B1.1 and German B2/C1. Online registrations are possible until the 23. September. Mentors for the Discovery Semester for refugees
As part of the 'discovery semester' for refugees, the participants attend up to four lectures in audit status; in addition, events and excursions are organised and language tandems are formed. For the programme starting in September, we are urgently looking for motivated and committed students who want to become involved as mentors. With your support, the University of Lucerne is making a contribution to the promotion of refugees; this is also part of the 'Diversity Strategy'. Prevention of Sexual Harassment: confidants
The three Lucerne universities offer a joint service for persons affected by sexual harassment. Any form of sexual harassment at a place of work or study is unacceptable and will result in appropriate measures and sanctions. Anyone affected can expect to receive quick and competent support from one of the four designated persons of trust. More information

Various Villa Talks with well-known personalities such as Roger de Weck are planned for October and November. Former Federal Councillor Pascal Couchepin will give a lecture at the University of Lucerne on Thursday, 7th October at 5 p.m. and will be available for a Villa Talk the next day. To do so, you will need your SWITCH edu-ID, which was issued to you when you enrolled. Please enter a private e-mail address in addition to your unilu e-mail address. Sunday opening times for students during exam preparation
The library will have special opening times: 5th/8th/ 12th/19th December 2021 and 9th/16th January 2022 – from 9am to 5pm. University of Lucerne and PH students can gain access via the night entrance, and with a valid CampusCard. More Info (pdf)

The library is not only a popular place to learn. Learn more about our many offers and services: Wed/Thu, 29th/30th September, Wed/Thu 6th/10th October, Wed/Thu 27th/28th October, 24th/25th November 2021 always from 12:15-13 hrs. Click here for the opening hours of the Studiladen and the online shop. The Studiladen now supports the renaturation and reforestation of destroyed rainforest areas in Indonesia. 'cogito' magazine: a focus on women
The 7th issue of the university magazine with the focus on 'Women' is available free of charge in the Uni/PH building. New articles are constantly being published in the online section of the magazine: www.unilu.ch/magazin. The next print edition will be published at the end of the year.
Neptun: Hardware at reduced prices
'Projekt Neptun' offers a selection of Apple, Lenovo and HP-laptops, tablets, printers and screens at significantly reduced prices. The devices are available for purchase until the 4th October 2021. More information via www.projektneptun.ch Demo Day: On 23rd September from 10am to 2:30pm the Neptun team, as well as representatives from various laptop manufacturers and shops will be in the university building (foyer area) to demonstrate their devices and to answer your questions. For customers, there is a Help Point at the University of Lucerne for general technical support. For students, the first 60 minutes of support for their Neptun device are free of charge.

Semester Info in German or English
Distribution of the Semester Info is done in either German or English. German version
If necessary, you can change your language within UniPortal (German or English). The language you opt for will then apply to all of the bilingual communication that is sent out by the University of Lucerne.
