Dear Students

With registration starting tomorrow, the revision and examination period is drawing closer. The warm season has now definitely come to an end, and the cooler temperatures fortunately make studying in the warm library all the more inviting. In this email, you will find all the important information you need to know about sitting examinations at the Faculty of Economics and Management (WF). To make sure everything goes smoothly, please take the time to read through this information carefully.

Compulsory registration for examinations and courses from 31 October!

Only students who register via the UniPortal between 31 October and 14 November 2019 may attend examinations and earn credits of the Faculty of Management & Economics. This regulation applies to all courses of the WF (unless otherwise stated in the course).

Students must also register via the UniPortal for courses which do not finish with an examination.

Please note the registrations are binding. Cancellations will not be accepted after 14 November!

!!!  The registration period is open from 00.00 on 31 Ocotber 2019 to 24.00 on 14 November 2019  !!!

Exact examination dates and times are published in the Course Catalogue and in the examination schedule. Please check our Examination Page to consult the examination schedule, UniPortal registration instructions for exams and courses, date of publication of grades and other infos.

For Bachelor students only

• Applications for extensions to examination timings: Please note that applications for extended examination times (for Bachelor students whose mother tongue is not German) must also be submitted during the examination registration period using the online form. Late applications will not be considered. An approved application does not apply to the entire study duration: a new application must be resubmitted each semester.
   
• Bonus points towards resit examinations: In certain tutorials, students may earn bonus points which may be credited towards examinations. Students who earn bonus points for tutorials completed during the autumn semester 2018, but who have not yet passed the examination, may use these points for the resit in the autumn semester 2019. To have bonus points considered, please forward the confirmation mail from the lecturer to the Student and Examination Administration to arrive by email no later than 14 November.

*This section applies only to those on the BA in Economics and Management course.

Registering the completion of your bachelor’s degree

Are you planning to complete your degree this spring? If so, please fill out this form by Monday 14 November 2019 at the latest. This is used for planning purposes only and is not binding.

You will receive an invitation to the graduation ceremony and be able to reserve your place once you have successfully completed your degree. The graduation ceremony will take place on 6 March 2020.

Deadline for the bachelor’s thesis

The autumn semester 2019 deadline for submitting your bachelor’s thesis is Friday 13 December 2019. You can find out more about other deadlines on the website under Exams. The Guidelines for completing bachelor’s and master's theses details what needs to be submitted by the deadline.

Registering for a master’s degree

Students already enrolled on the BA in Economics and Management course at the University of Lucerne do not have to actively register for the master’s degree. You will be automatically enrolled onto the master’s degree if you do not deregister after receiving your examination results and successfully completing your bachelor’s degree. The Dean’s Office will contact you about the module options available to you (optional compulsory or specialisation).

If you would like to study for a master’s degree in a different field, please contact student services at studiendiensteremove-this.@remove-this.unilu.ch.

Integration Seminar Law and Economics (in German)

For the Master of Law Plus "Economics & Management" we offer the block event "Environment and Regulation" together with the Faculty of Law. The event is organized by Prof. Dr. iur. Klaus Mathis and Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Stephan Meyer. Interested students of the WF can participate in the block seminar within the scope of the optional compulsory / optional subjects.

The kick-off event already takes place in the current autumn semester! Binding registration via the UniPortal is possible from 12 to 28 November 2019. The kick-off event is on Tuesday, 26 November 2019, the seminar on Thursday/Friday, 7/8 May 2020. Further Information.

Announcement: Optional events before the beginning of the semester

From the autumn semester 2020, the WF will occasionally hold block events one or two weeks before the semester begins. Further information will follow and details about the events will be published in the course catalogue in due course.

A guide to the master’s thesis

The guidelines for completing bachelor’s theses has been revised and now includes information about the general conditions and deadlines for the master’s degree. You can find this guide on the Regulations page of the website.

Candidates wanted for a bachelor’s or master’s thesis

The Elisabethenheim Luzern AG care home oversees a bachelor’s or master’s thesis on the topic Costs in Retirement and Care Homes, alongside Prof. Dr Christoph Schaltegger. If you would be interested in writing your thesis on this topic, you can find out more here (in German).

Library: Sunday opening hours

For students of the University of Lucerne and the PH Luzern, the library in the Uni/PH building is open on the following Sundays: 8/15/22 December 2019 and 5/12/19 January 2020, 9 am - 5 pm. Further information (in German).

International Days 2019

Where in the world would you like to spend more time? Which partner university would be a good fit for you?  From Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 November, you can come and find out about the experiences of former and current exchange students from all around the world. The International Relations Office, the university’s faculties and the PH will also be presenting the opportunities available to you to study abroad. You can win prizes from around the world in the tombola, treat yourself to a coffee in the UNILU World Café and find out more about exchange semesters.

The Swiss Study Foundation

The Swiss Study Foundation supports young people who are able and willing to take on social responsibility. It helps promote talented university students with wide-ranging interests whose personalities, creativity and intellectual abilities mean that they should be able to make special contributions to the fields of science, business, culture and politics. Prof. Bettina Beer is responsible for overseeing this support programme at the University of Lucerne.
The foundation offers a wide range of extracurricular educational courses, financial support, personal support and advice as well as a multitude of networking opportunities to the students (including doctoral students) accepted into the programme. You can find the list of requirements here.
