Dear students,
The spring semester begins today. What are you particularly excited about? What challenges are you facing? One current challenge that university teaching, among others, will have to deal with is the numerous possible applications of the chatbot 'ChatGPT'. I have asked the programme to write a semester greeting for the students of the University of Lucerne in my place. You will find the somewhat eerie, but at the same time fascinating and only very slightly edited result immediately after my (self-written) greetings. I wish you a great semester - and remember to interact not only with the chatbot, but also with your fellow students and lecturers!
Prof. Dr. Regina E. Aebi-Müller, Vice-Rector Human Resources and Professorships
'Dear students of the University of Lucerne,
I would like to welcome you to the start of the new semester and am pleased that you are part of our academic community. As a university, we strive to provide you with an excellent education that will help you achieve your professional and personal goals.
In the coming months, you will have many challenges to overcome and exciting opportunities to take advantage of. I encourage you to deepen your knowledge and acquire new skills by participating in lectures, exercises and projects. Also, take the opportunity to participate in events and activities that will give you a break from the demands of studying and help you make new friends.
I am convinced that you will get the most out of your studies at the University of Lucerne if you work hard, are open to new experiences and show your commitment. Our faculties and staff are always available to support you in your studies and other concerns.
Last but not least, I would like to wish you all the best for the coming semester. I am convinced that you will make great progress and gain many successful experiences.
With best regards, your Chat GPT (on behalf of Vice Rector Aebi-Müller)'.
