Research Cooperation Switzerland - Africa, Promotion of Young Researchers: Call for Grants and PhD Programme
On behalf of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), the University of Basel has a mandate as Leading House Africa for bilateral cooperation with partner institutions in Africa for the period 2021-2024. In this context, two calls are open in the area of junior researcher funding:

1. Research Partnership Grant I
- Disciplines: including humanities and social sciences - Target group: advanced doctoral students in their final year and postdocs with max. 2 years of postdoc experience - Lead: Applicants from a Swiss university - Partner countries in Africa: all except the Maghreb and Egypt - Total budget: CHF 250'000 - Maximum amount per project: CHF 15'000 - Deadline: 26 November 2022 - Decision: 31 January 2023 - Earliest project start: 1 February 2023 More information -
2. PhD programmes, Seasonal Schools (e.g. Summer School)
- Disciplines: humanities and social sciences among others - Target group: Organisers of seasonal schools with doctoral students in Switzerland or abroad, min. 5 and max. 15 doctoral students in Africa with the exception of the Maghreb and Egypt - Total budget: CHF 224'000 - Maximum amount per Seasonal School: CHF 60'000 - Duration of the Seasonal School: min. 1 week - Deadline: 28 February 2023 - Decision: 28 April 2023 - Earliest project start: 8 May 2023 More information
SNSF career funding for postdocs: Ambizione, next submission deadline: 1 November 2022 (once a year)
Ambizione grants are aimed at young researchers who would like to independently carry out, manage and lead a project at a Swiss university.

Target group: Postdocs (without and with a mid-level position), min. 12 to max. 48 months after obtaining a doctorate, of all disciplines and nationalities

Aim and purpose: Support of habilitation project (normally), stay abroad possible (max. 12 months)

Project duration: 24-48 months

Project funds: approx. CHF 400'000 (four years)

ZHB InfoLunch Special, Open Access Journals and Working Papers Series: 24 October 2022, 12:15-13:00
The ZHB Luzern already hosts several open access journals and working paper series. Such researcher-edited publications offer an important complement to commercially distributed publications. The ZHB will present the possibilities for this. At the beginning of the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Bruno Staffelbach will award the Open Science Prize 2022 of the University of Lucerne.

Postdocs: Support for international exchange through FoKo and SNSF
Mobility and international exchange are central to research and an academic career. Both the Research Commission of the University of Lucerne (FoKo) and the Swiss National Science Foundation provide support for international exchange with a view to networking and scientific cooperation.

1. FoKo: International exchange
- Target group: Postdocs incl. professorships - Options: Stay abroad at a foreign university as a guest or invitation of foreign researchers to the University of Lucerne - Contribution: max.
