“Wetland politics” offers reflections on racialized politics, climate coloniality and infrastructural projects in the Comuna 6, located in Cartagena’s southeastern periphery. Largely inhabited by Afrodescendent population, the Comuna 6 is a rapidly changing social setting, where entanglements of race, ecology, citizenship and socio-spatial inequalities impact not only the inhabitants’ everyday life but also their environmental futures. In an era of urban climate change, wetlands have come under increased scrutiny. In Cartagena, the Ciénaga de la Virgen wetland, with its mangrove forests, is central to political and technocratic debates. At the same time, it also foregrounds local narratives of distrust, displacement, and political exclusion. Focusing on the voices of ordinary citizens highlights diverse modes of knowledge creation, contributing to the decolonization of urban climate change discourse.
