Sociology is the applied study of societies, and is also an exciting occupation.

In modern and increasingly complex societies, people are coordinating their behaviour with a growing number of media, with new types of organisations and networks. Societies are becoming global and more and more people worldwide are sharing the effects of cultural, technical and economic globalisation. At the same time, social lifestyles, social systems and local identities are becoming differentiated.

The result of the various aspects of social modernisation is the fact that there is an increasing need for sociological knowledge within society in order to answer a range of questions: how does society work and how is it possible at all? How can society be planned and organised? What are social problems and what are their causes? How can we systematically analyse society and make its sociological knowledge available?
