The 25th Willem C. Vis Moot is history. Once again, it has been a successful and unforgettable journey for the University of Lucerne's Vis Moot team. Steven Gründel, Hermann Julen, Kristina Martinovic, and Jeremias Wartmann have fought during six months about the sustainability of Responent's Queens' Delight Chocolate Cake and the challenge of Claimant's party appointed arbitrator, Mr. Prasad. Next to brief writing and practice rounds in Swiss law firms, they have travelled to pre-moots in Berlin and London, where they have practiced their arguments in front of real life arbitral tribunals. Along the way, they have picked up valuable professional skills as well as friendships with students from all over the world. In Vienna, the University of Lucerne competed against teams from Istanbul (Turkey), Dublin (Ireland), Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), and Passau (Germany). And finally, the hard work paid off. The Lucerne team was awarded two Honorable Mentions for their excellent written submissions. Congratulations!
Honorable Mentions for Memorandum for Claimant and Memorandum for Respondent
Another fantastic Willem C. Vis Moot has come to an end. After six months of thinking about Claimant’s USD 2.3 million claim and Respondent’s defense strategy, the team spent an unforgettable and truly international week in Vienna. Philipp Anton Burri, Sonja Dobrijevic, Stephan Greber and Lukas Schifferle pleaded against Universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Dubai and the United States of America, and they made friends with team members of many other countries all over the world. We congratulate the team for their strong performances and the Honorable Mention for their Memorandum for Claimant!
The 22nd Willem C. Vis Moot has come to an end
The great efforts of the Lucerne Team for the 22nd Vis Moot have paid off. Valérie Dittli, Lisa Imhof, Flavia Reinhardt, and Arianne Wuffli won an Honorable Mention for their Memorandum for Respondent. We congratulate the team for this achievement, as it was well deserved. The Mooties worked hard for the past 6 months and they have made great progress not only in writing, but also in pleading.
At the finals in Vienna, the Lucerne Mooties presented their arguments in front of experts and practitioners in the field of international commercial arbitration. They faced tough questions of the panel and had to rebut strong arguments of the opposing teams, such as the London School of Economics, Belmont University, and Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.

On Friday, 7th October the respective case of the Vienna Moot was unveiled on the internet. The central problem was a printing machine which was not able to print on a special foil. Who was responsible for the delivery of the false machine? The seller which did not understand the buyer correctly or the buyer which did not investigate sufficiently on the requirements and specifics the machine should meet.
From October 2005 until January 2006 the team was occupied writing the Memorandum for Claimant as well as the Memorandum for Respondent in response to the memorandum from the team of the University of Texas. After the intensive written phase, the team began with the preparations of the pleadings. Numerous testruns were held at different law firms in Zurich or Basel. Additionally, the team participated at the All Munich Rounds and the Swiss Day, which was staged in Lucerne.
The week before Easter, the mooties travelled together with other 165 teams from all over the world in Vienna, waiting with bated breath for the oral rounds to initiate. The Lucerne team competed against the teams from Hong Kong, Sydney, Texas and New York.
The crowing achievement of the 13th Willem C. Vis Moot Court was the banquet on the second to last day in Vienna: the Lucerne team was bestowed with an honorable mention for its Memorandum for Respondent, and Rosana was invested with an honorable mention for her oral pleadings.
Certainly, along with all the nervousness of the pleadings, the thrill of the banquet or all the other gained impressions, the Lucerne team experienced further excitement in the legendary Ma Pitom.
It is more than just a rule of thumb, that the participation at the Willem C. Vis Moot and thus the experience in Vienna is simply unforgettable.
