Students with disabilities
People with physical or mental disabilities or chronic illnesses often find themselves faced with great challenges and obstacles during their studies. Lucerne University strives to remove these obstacles and create a level playing field.
This page gives information about appropriate measures - currently mainly in German. Please contact Pia Ammann, head of Gender Equality Office.

There are regulations how to apply for a compensation for disadvantage. The document is currently only available in German.
The "Facility management accessibility" document [link in German only] provides information on structural measures at the University of Lucerne: parking spaces, lifts, ramps, access to auditoriums, hearing aid loops in auditoriums and seminar rooms, toilet facilities, EuroKey, labelling of auditoriums, stairs and lift operation.
The ZHB can offer the following services to students with disabilities:
- Students with visual disabilities can borrow reference literature for two days, enabling them to work on it at home using their own technical equipment. Please ask at the counter.
- ZHB grants students with visual disabilities a fee reduction of CHF 3 on photocopying orders, which are charged at CHF 2 (rather than CHF 5) per article or 20 pages. This can be claimed on the order, or for more regular orders directly within the library system.
- It is unfortunately no longer possible to reserve standard works, as these are in constant use particularly during examination periods. Please ask at the counter and the library staff will try to find the item you need.
Please do not hesitate to contact library staff. Ruth Bucheli, Head of Reader Services, is the ZHB’s direct university contact for students with disabilities.
