As a university focusing on human sciences, the University of Lucerne is committed to Open Science. In particular, the focus is on free access to publications ("Open Access") as well as transparent and open access to research data. The University of Lucerne has included Open Science in its Strategy 2023-2026 and adopted an Open Science Policy, which will enter into force on 01.01.2024. Together with the Central and University Library of Lucerne, it supports its members in implementing Open Science and recognizes efforts in Open Science i.a. with the annual awarding of the Open Science Award.

The University of Lucerne has been a member of ORCID since February 2024 and enables researchers to easily exchange data between their FIS and ORCID profiles via an interface in the Research Information System (FIS).
