The conference “Trade Law 4.0” co-organized by the University of Lucerne and Georgetown Law seeks to unpack contemporary data governance with a focus on the role of global trade law. It will connect existing discourses across jurisdictions and across disciplinary domains, map and analyze existing approaches, and generate insights as to how to shape better the existing rule-framework, so that data-driven growth and innovation can be furthered while safeguarding certain fundamental rights and values important to domestic constituencies. We are fortunate to gather together a faculty of renowned experts that not only have a profound insight into different legal and policy fields but also an understanding of the developments in different parts of the world, and the therewith-linked geopolitical tensions. We look forward to interesting and fruitful discussions, also with inputs from practitioners and policymakers.
