Pay transparency leads to higher organizational citizenship behavior and less workplace deviance
Pay transparency is a hot topic. However, little is known about how this affect the behavior and commitment of employees.
Advocates of pay transparency argue that displaying pay information reveals potential misconduct and leads to fairer pay. On the other hand, advocates of pay secrecy emphasize negative consequences of pay transparency such as envy and conflict, lower flexibility in terms of pay determination and higher justification costs. How pay transparency impacts employees’ organizational citizenship and deviant workplace behavior however, has not been studied yet. Three US researchers have addressed exactly this research question in their article.
