Global ethical discourse at the University of Lucerne
The next "Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context LSUE" will take place in summer 2021. Now the first lecturers are known – including the President of the ICRC, Peter Maurer, and Leoluca Orlando, Mayor of Palermo. Registration is possible from now on.
On June 10–15, 2021, a remarkable faculty will meet with PhD and Master students from all over the world at the University of Lucerne to deal with highly relevant ethical questions and challenges of today and tomorrow. The international Summer University is singular in its form and offers a unique platform to address moral issues and ethical challenges across scientific disciplines in a sustainable and systematic way in a global context.
Interdisciplinary, connected, practical
Affiliated to the Institute of Social Ethics at the Faculty of Theology, the LSUE is headed by Prof. Dr. Peter G. Kirchschlaeger. The LSUE is the core event of the project "Building a Global Network for Sustainable Responsibility" under the patronage of UNESCO. The upcoming event focuses on topics such as the ethics of human rights; gender justice; economic, financial and corporate ethics; the ethics of digitization; automation; robotization; the use of artificial intelligence and bio, medical and environmental ethics.
Through project workshops and colloquia, own scientific works as well as practical projects of 20 selected doctoral students and 10 master students will be promoted and discussed. The dialogue across the boundaries of academic disciplines, cultures and worldviews facilitate the joint search for solutions in a global context and lead to mutual scientific and personal enrichment. According to the guiding idea "Know how, act now" emphasis is placed on the promotion of applied ethics.
