Strategic Internationalisation Plan 2023-2028
The University of Lucerne views internationalisation as a comprehensive, continuous process with the aim of integrating an international and intercultural dimension into teaching, research and services at the University of Lucerne. Internationalisation is therefore an important pillar for the University of Lucerne's goal of being one of the leading human science-oriented research and teaching institutions in Europe by 2030.
The internationalisation strategy supports the quality of teaching, studies and research by integrating international and intercultural dimensions, thereby increasing the acquisition of competitive third-party funding as well as expanding international cooperation agreements strategically. Furthermore, it contributes to increasing the University of Lucerne’s international visibility and reputation, improves the international and intercultural competences of its graduates, increases the competitiveness of the University of Lucerne vis-à-vis other universities, expands international research collaborations, and increases its attractiveness for international students.
In order to achieve these goals, the multiple hurdles of internationalisation – e.g. language barriers, insufficient incentives for teachers and researchers, insufficient financial and human resources, bureaucratic and organisational hurdles, lack of engagement on the part of educators and researchers, lack of support due to unclear responsibilities – are to be addressed in parallel with the implementation of the internationalisation strategy and remedied as far as is possible.
