Ai Weiwei at the opening of the Lucerne Summer University LSUE
Chinese artist and human rights activist Ai Weiwei, considered the world's most prominent critic of the Chinese regime, will meet with LSUE students for a discussion at the opening of the third "Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context LSUE" on Thursday, June 10, 2021.
The " Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context LSUE" is pleased to announce a notable addition to the faculty. The Chinese artist and dissident Ai Weiwei officially opens the Ethics Summer University together with Precious Oghale Diagboya, LSUE alumna of 2018. 30 Master and PhD students from 24 countries will have the extraordinary opportunity to exchange with Ai Weiwei.
Precious Oghale Diagboya will address this year's participants as a former student of the LSUE 2018 and talk about her experience at the "Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context LSUE" and her further career. She conducts research on migration from Nigeria to Europe, North Africa, and other parts of the Gulf of Guinea and is a PhD candidate at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Furthermore, she is currently a member of the “United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC/CONIG)” research team.
With Ai Weiwei and Precious Oghale Diagboya, this year's " Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context LSUE" receives another valuable addition to an already outstanding faculty. The opening lecture on Thursday, June 10, 2021 will be delivered by Leoluca Orlando, Mayor of Palermo and internationally known for his advocacy for refugees, as has already been reported last week. Throughout the week, the LSUE students will among others be joined by Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and Akaliza Keza Ntwari, co-founder of Girls in ICT Rwanda and a member of the UN High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation.
The "Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context LSUE" under the patronage of UNESCO is organized by the Institute of Social Ethics ISE of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Lucerne.
