CV
Matteo Frey is a doctoral candidate at the Lucerne Graduate School in Ethics (LSGE) of the Institute for Social Ethics (ISE) at the Faculty of Theology, University of Lucerne. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. theol. lic. phil. Peter G. Kirchschläger, his research project is dedicated to the ethical dimensions of political neutrality in international institutions. The focus of his dissertation is scrutinising a concept of political neutrality as employed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
He holds a Master's degree in Religious Studies, Economics, and Religious Studies from the Interdisciplinary Center for Religion-Economics-Politics at the Universities of Lucerne, Basel, and Zurich (2021). As part of his Master's program, he completed a semester focusing on Religion and Human Rights at Tel Aviv University in Israel (2020). He wrote his thesis on virtue ethics in political peace work under the supervision of Thomas Wallimann, ethik21, and Laurent Goetschel, Swisspeace. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and International Management with a focus on "Social Entrepreneurship" from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (2017). He spent one year of his studies at the University of Latvia (2014/15) focusing on diplomacy and international relations. In addition to his Bachelor’s and Master’s studies, he participated as a guest student in the MAS in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Basel under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ueli Mäder. He further completed his federal certificate of proficiency in the field of fiduciary services.
He has professional experience in project management and development cooperation with World Vision as a Project Specialist (2022) and International Programme Coordinator (2019–2020). He also has experience from volunteer work with the Malteser Hospital Service Switzerland (MHDS) as an On-Site and Team Leader supporting people with intellectual and physical disabilities in Lebanon (2017–2020); National Project Manager at Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Switzerland promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (2019–2020); National ExchangeAbility Coordinator at ESN Switzerland enhancing academic participation of people with disabilities (2015–2017); Founder and President of ESN Lucerne (2018–2019) promoting academic mobility on the Lucerne campus.
