Ilja Kirianoff

Ilja Kirianoff is a doctoral student at the Lucerne Graduate School in Ethics (LGSE) at the Institute for Social Ethics (ISE). In his research project, he focuses on moral responsibility towards the future from the perspectives of ethics and political philosophy. In particular, he addresses human rights of future generations and discusses the moral evaluation of intergenerational risk imposition. The project is supervised by Prof. Dr. theol. lic. phil. Peter G. Kirchschläger.
Before devoting himself to the preparation of his doctoral thesis, Ilja Kirianoff worked as an associate program officer at the Swiss Peace Foundation swisspeace in the field of Dealing with the Past/Transitional Justice (2021-2023). Prior to that, he supported the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs as a trainee on human rights issues and unresolved conflicts in post-Soviet countries (2019-2020). Ilja Kirianoff also worked in an UN-led sustainability initiative in Paris (2018) and supported an NGO co-founded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Kyrgyzstan (2013).
Ilja Kirianoff completed his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Political Science at the University of Zurich (2013-2017). This was followed by a Master's degree in Philosophy and Anthropology of Transnationalism and the State at the Universities of Zurich and Bern (2017-2019). During his studies, Ilja Kirianoff focused on practical philosophy, in particular on questions of justice in the context of globalization.
In addition, Ilja Kirianoff completed a CAS in Peacebuilding Essentials at the University of Basel (2022-2023) and a Micro Master in International Law at the Université de Louvain (2020-2021).
