Professorship of Religious Education / Catechesis
Religious Teaching is an interdisciplinary subject at the intersection between religion and education. It deals with the perception, analysis and conception of religious teaching, learning, and development processes in the context of social, cultural and religious references. Sciences related to religious teaching include pedagogy, psychology, sociology, theology and religious studies. All research and teaching in this subject relates to all areas of religious learning including religious socialisation in the family, school learning, ecclesiastical catechesis and religious development. Catechesis is a sub-discipline of Religious Teaching. It deals with ecclesiastical catechesis in the literal sense. Religious Teaching also focuses on religious learning through non-denominational religious education, and the theory of religious learning under changing social conditions, including an historical perspective.
The Institute of Religious Education (RPI) is affiliated with the Professorship of Religious Education / Catechesis.
