Zalman holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude, where he was Julis-Rabinowitz Fellow. Zalman earned a BA in Judaic Studies and History from Binghamton University, an MA in Jewish Philosophy from Yeshiva University, and a Ph.D. in Jewish Studies from New York University. Zalman served as scholar-in-residence at Park Avenue Synagogue of Manhattan and as Teaching Fellow in American Political Thought at Harvard College. He was a Tikvah Scholar at the Tikvah Center for Law & Jewish Civilization at New York University School of Law and a fellow at the Center for Jewish Law and Contemporary Civilization at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Previously he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Herbert D. Katz Center of the University of Pennsylvania and is currently a nonresident fellow at the Stanford Constitutional Law Center of Stanford Law School and a Faculty Fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. He is interested in constitutional law, comparative law, law and religion jurisprudence, legal theory, and family law.
