«The fact that our programme and our work for the online Master PhilTeR has already been awarded in its first year of implementation makes me extraordinarily happy,»says Giovanni Ventimiglia, Professor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Theology and founder of the Master PhilTeR.«It is nice that people in New York talk about our university and consider it an innovative and international university,»he continues. The award is also an appreciation for the intensive work done in recent months.
Online-Master in Philosophy, Theology and Religions
In 2022, the first class of the online master's programme «Philosophy, Theology and Religions» (PhilTeR) of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Lucerne started. Students from all over the world can participate without having to travel to Lucerne and benefit from internationally renowned experts in the history of philosophy and theology of the three Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam). Often, philosophy is taught with an agnostic view - as if God does not exist - and if so, only the relationship to Christianity is deepened. Other religions, especially Judaism and Islam, play a minor role. Students of the Online Master PhilTeR should study the history of philosophy in its entirety. In doing so, they should discover that without Judaism, Christianity and Islam there would be no history of philosophy and thus no cultural history of the West.
This new, unique Master's programme is based at the Centre for Theology and Philosophy of Religions (TheiRs), which has the purpose of interreligious and interdisciplinary research, teaching and further education in the field of interreligious coexistence.
