Research
Research at the Centre for Theology and Philosophy of Religions (TheiRs) is dedicated to the history of philosophy with a special focus on the exchange between the three Abrahamic traditions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The aim is to make the profound philosophical dialogue between these traditions visible.
The current research project ‘Senses of Being’, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and led by Prof. Dr Giovanni Ventimiglia, together with Dr Marta Borgo, Dr Iacopo Costa, Dr des. Mostafa Najafi and Davide Falessi, is investigating the interpretation and further development of Aristotle's concept of ‘being’ in the Arabic and Latin traditions of the Middle Ages. This project sheds light on the historical development of metaphysical concepts in Christian and Islamic contexts and their significance for contemporary philosophy.
In June 2024, the international conference ‘Arabic and Latin Theories of the Several Senses of Being’ took place at the University of Lucerne, which promoted interdisciplinary exchange on the central topics of the project.
