The New York Times: “Where Is Global Politics Headed?”
From October 1-3, 2024, the “Athens Democracy Forum” brought together speakers and panelists from politics, business, academia and civil society to discuss the role of technology in democracy. New York Times-journalist Farah Nayeri met Peter G. Kirchschlaeger for an interview.
In the article, Prof Dr Peter G. Kirchschlaeger addresses serious ethical problems associated with so-called “artificial intelligence”, such as the violation of copyright, data protection, and the theft of data. In order to tackle these problems “firmly and with urgency”, he spoke out in Athens in favor of the creation of an International Data-Based Systems Agency (IDA) at the UN. As a global supervisory and monitoring institution and regulatory authority in the area of digital transformation and data-based systems, the institution should ensure that technologies comply with human rights throughout their entire life cycle.
The "Athens Democracy Forum" takes place annually and was organized in cooperation with the New York Times.
