Sofie Isler obtained a Bachelor's degree in law at the University of Bern via the second educational pathway after completing her apprenticeship with the cantonal administration Zürich and the Matura for adults. She achieved her Master's degree in law with a focus on migration law, human rights law, international humanitarian law and environmental law at the University of Lucerne and the University of Oslo.
During her bachelor's degree, she worked as an assistant in the legal department of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM). At the same time as starting her studies with the University of Lucerne for the fall semester 2020, she joined Prof. Dr. Martina Caroni, LL.M. (Yale)’s team at the University of Lucerne as an undergraduate research assistant. Sofie Isler has been a postgraduate research assistant at the Chair since August 2022 and works at the University of Lucerne as well as at the Fernuni Schweiz as a teaching assistant and substitute lecturer for international public law. In addition, she works as a legal representative for asylum seekers in the Zurich asylum region for the NGO “Berner Rechtsvertretung für Menschen in Not”. In this role, she represents asylum seekers in first instance and appeal proceedings.
Sofie Isler has been writing her dissertation on the asylum eligibility of former prisoners of war in the fields of asylum law and international humanitarian law since the fall semester of 2023.
