Monika Plozza is a senior research associate (postdoc) and lecturer at the University of Lucerne. Her area of expertise is public law, including public international law, international human rights law, migration law, and constitutional law. In the academic year (2024/2025), she will teach courses on Public International Law, Migration Law, International Human Rights Law, and International Humanitarian Law.
Additionally, she serves as advisor on the human right to science for the Geneva Science Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA), an independent foundation established by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Government (FDFA). Prior to commencing her doctoral studies, she was employed at the Legal Department of the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM).
Monika Plozza studied law at the Universities of Lucerne and Edinburgh. Supported by the Mobility Grant for Doctoral Students, she undertook research stays at the Universities of Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Oxford. She completed her doctorate at the University of Lucerne in 2024 with summa cum laude. Her doctoral thesis, entitled ‘The Human Right to Science - Down to the Core: Promoting its Justiciability in International Law’, will be published as monograph.
She is a board member of the Swiss Network of Young Migration Scholars and has actively contributed to the academic self-governance of the University of Lucerne. She has served as a board member of the Association for Scientific Staff Members (MOL), as a member of the Working Group for Diversity and via a stint in the Senate.
Monika Plozza was selected as one of four Schindler Junior Scholars, a programme for the promotion of excellent doctoral researchers in Switzerland at the Institute for International and Comparative Constitutional Law of the University of Zurich.
