CV

Valentin Groebner was born in Vienna in 1962. He studied in Vienna, Marburg und Hamburg and completed his Ph.D. in 1991 in Bielefeld. From 1992 on, he worked as an Assistant in the Department of History at the University of Basel and received his post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) in 1998 at the University of Basel.

In the academic year 1996/97, he was a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study (Wissenschaftskolleg) in Berlin; in 1999, he worked as a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence and, in 1999/2000, as a Visiting Professor in the Department of History of Art at Harvard University. Spring 2001, he taught as a professeur invité at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris and worked, in Summer 2001, as a visiting Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) in Berlin. He has held various lectureships in Switzerland and the USA. 

Since March 2004, he is teaching at the University of Lucerne. Valentin Groebner is a member of the Swiss Society for Economic and Social History
