CV
Katharina Roser is a Lecturer and Senior Researcher at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine of the University of Lucerne. She studied Mathematics at the University of Basel. She did her PhD in Epidemiology at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) in Basel in the framework of the HERMES (Health Effects Related to Mobile phonE use in AdolescentS) project (2012-2015). From 2016 until 2021, she was a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Health Sciences and Medicine of the University of Lucerne. In parallel, she worked as a scientific collaborator at the Cancer Registry of Central Switzerland on a project on the epidemiology of cancer in adolescents and young adults in Central Switzerland (2017-2018) and at the Swiss National Science Foundation on a project investigating new features in one of the funding schemes for early career researchers (2019). She is the principal investigator of a project on adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer in Switzerland and another project on the socio-bureaucratic hardships after childhood cancer from the perspective of parents, survivors, and experts in Switzerland. Alongside her research activities, she teaches in the Bachelor in Health Sciences and the Joint Medical Master UniLU-UZH and supervises Master students in Health Sciences.
Research
My overall research interests are the health, wellbeing and behaviour of the population, especially children, adolescents and young adults, related to various kinds of exposures such as the environment or diseases. Moreover, I am interested in the epidemiology of these outcomes and exposures. During my PhD, I investigated whether the use or the radiation of mobile phones and other wireless communication devices have an impact on the health and behaviour of Swiss adolescents. My current research focuses on children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and having survived cancer, and their families. I am the principal investigator of a project on adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer in Switzerland and another project on the socio-bureaucratic hardships after childhood cancer from the perspective of parents, survivors, and experts in Switzerland. I am involved in projects on grandparents of survivors of childhood cancer, person-centred follow-up care for survivors of childhood cancer, and the use of e-health tools to promote equity in quality of life for survivors of cancer in childhood, adolescence and young adulthood and their families.
