Sophie Karoline Brandt holds a Master of Science in Global Health Policy issued by the University of Edinburgh, UK as well as a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Physiotherapy issued by the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.
In her master’s degree in the UK, Sophie studied associations between sociodemographic, health insurance and health-related characteristics and healthcare utilisation in Switzerland. For her master thesis in Switzerland, she conducted a qualitative study on barriers to and facilitators of the establishment of direct access to physiotherapy in Switzerland.
During her studies, she completed an internship in the physiotherapy department of the Martini Ziekenhuis in Groningen and a research internship at the Care and Public Health Research Institute of Maastricht University.
Sophie worked as a physiotherapist in a private hospital and as a research assistant at the Department of Health Professions at the Bern University of Applied Sciences.
In January 2020, she started her PhD within the project “Health2040”. Her research focuses on the measurement and empirical analysis of health professionals' preferences regarding new models of outpatient primary care.
Research
Sophie’s research focuses on preferences of health professionals regarding new models of outpatient primary care. She is particularly interested in interprofessional collaboration, health promotion and the innovativeness of health professionals. Her PhD project includes the design and conduct of an experimental survey among a sample of different health occupations in Switzerland. She is further interested in extended roles and advanced practice in healthcare service provision.
