Dr. Martin Gutmann

Dr. Martin Gutmann is a historian, author and university lecturer. He has published three books and over two dozen academic articles on subjects including leadership, sustainability, international relations and negotiations in a historical context.
Dr. Gutmann is a University Lecturer at the Lucerne School of Business and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management, Technology and Economics at ETH Zurich. He is also a partner in Align Coaching and Consulting, a boutique coaching firm.
Dr. Gutmann was the founding Managing Director of the ETH Swiss School of Public Governance, which he managed from 2014 to 2020. Previously he was a Professor at the American Graduate School of Business, Switzerland and as a Visiting Professor at Quest University, Canada, as well as working in various roles at institutions in the US, Canada, Germany, South Africa and Mauritius.
Dr. Gutmann has a Ph.D. in History from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University, USA and an Executive MBA from IE Business School, Spain. His writing has appeared in Public Money and Management, History Compass, Journal of Contemporary History, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism, Journal of Modern European History, and Journal of Contemporary European History, as well as popular outlets, such as Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
