Stefan Essig completed his medical studies at the University of Basel in 2010. Immediately afterwards, he completed his PhD in health services research and epidemiology as part of the MD-PhD program of the Swiss National Science Foundation. At the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine of the University of Bern, he investigated research questions in pediatric oncology and orthopedics in Switzerland and Mongolia. From 2014, he was the research director at the Institute for Primary and Community Care in Lucerne. Since 2020, he has been a staff member at the Center for Primary and Community Care at the University of Lucerne and project manager at Interface Policy Studies Research Consulting, Lausanne/Lucerne. His research focuses on interprofessional collaboration between healthcare providers within primary care and between primary care providers and specialists.
