We are delighted to welcome Prof. Sir Graham Thornicroft, a distinguished British psychiatrist renowned for his significant contributions to community-based psychiatry and Professor emeritus of Community Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. He has been instrumental in shifting mental health services from institutional care to community-based models and developed the National Service Framework for Mental Health as key policy document of the UK Department of Health. The framework set out standards and guidelines for the delivery of mental health care, with a focus on providing more integrated, community-based services for people with mental health conditions. He also showed leadership in multiple Global Mental Health Initiatives that aimed at reducing stigma and improving access to high-quality care in multiple low- and middle-income countries. Professor Thornicroft has authored or edited 30 books and over 460peer-reviewed papers. He received several awards for his work and in 2020 he was recognised by the Royal Society of Public Health as one of the Top 20 Public Health Achievements of the 21st century.

In his lecture, Professor Sir Graham Thornicroft will draw on his extensive experience and research to highlight effective models of community-based mental health care worldwide. He will showcase successful initiatives and key strategies that highlight how integrated community care can reduce the burden of mental disorders, improve quality of life, and promote social inclusion for people with mental health disorders. The lecture will offer a comprehensive view of best practices and evidence-based strategies, emphasizing the need for collaboration between mental health professionals, governments, and communities to build more resilient mental health systems globally.
After the presentation, there will be an opportunity for an exchange over drinks and snacks.
The lecture will be held in English.
