In this presentation I will introduce my ongoing film project “Onwoba” which I am currently conducting preliminary research for in collaboration with the Embassy of Foreign Artists and the UN Organisations in Geneva. Onwoba is a short, experimental film that explores the Biafran war through juxtaposing the intimate recollections of three brothers on different ends of the battleground with the images of the war produced by international humanitarian and media organisations. The war was one of the most heavily documented conflicts and famine disasters of its time, and its portrayal has ultimately transformed how humanitarian media is made decades later. Despite how visible the conflict and its effects were, it has almost completely vanished from public conscience and records particularly in Nigeria.
