The project "Family medicine ICPC Research using Electronic medical records" (FIRE) was started by dedicated and innovative family physicians in 2009. The acronym summarizes the objective of the project: To build a database for research in family medicine based on routine medical data from electronic medical records, with diagnoses classified according to the International Classification of Primary Care (ICPC). After more than 10 years, the portfolio has grown from a small project with 15 independent family physicians to more than 700 physicians. This presentation covers the technical basics of the FIRE project, the technical and human resources as well as the problems that such a project entails.
