Ukrainian students and researchers
The University of Lucerne is alarmed by Russia's attack on Ukraine and strongly condemns this massive violation of international law. It expresses its solidarity with the people of Ukraine and with Ukrainian universities and is doing its utmost to support students, researchers and teachers at Ukrainian universities. Ukrainian students and academics are invited to contact the International Relations Office for advice on opportunities for study and research at the University of Lucerne: international @ unilu.ch
Switzerland grants temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine. The persons concerned do not have to go through an asylum procedure, but are granted protection status S via a fast-track procedure. For this, the persons concerned must submit an application for protection status S and register at a Federal Asylum Centre (BAZ).
Students from Ukrainian universities can register as visiting students at the University of Lucerne. The tuition fees for guest students from Ukraine have been waived.
Requirements for enrolment as a guest student:
- proof of enrolment at a Ukrainian university
- availability of a suitable study programme at the University of Lucerne.
For admission to a regular Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral programme, the usual applicable admission requirements must be met. Application and admission
Please also note that study fees will be charged for regular admission.
The University of Lucerne is a member of the 'Scholars at Risk' network. Currently, no such positions can be funded. Before taking on a 'Scholar', funding would have to be secured through third-party funding.

Students from Ukraine have the opportunity to attend the language courses offered at the University of Lucerne. The fees for the German courses are waived, for all other courses the regular fees apply.
The following organisations are dedicated to supporting people from Ukraine in the canton of Lucerne:
Prostir: a cultural centre for Ukrainians that offers opportunities to participate in social life in Switzerland;
LUkraina: an organisation that organises events, meetings and leisure activities for the integration of Ukrainians.
